History does not repeat itself...we repeat it. To truly understand the “is” and prepare for the “is to be”, we must first understand the “was” — and so I study history. I begin the first lesson of each year explaining why we should learn history, and hopefully, my students will leave with this wisdom. |

I have been fascinated with history from my earliest memories. I was born at an Army hospital in Stuttgart, (West) Germany. Growing up in the military instilled in me a fierce sense of patriotism. Love of my country created an interest in our national history, which quickly developed into a burning desire to study history as a whole. Wanting to learn about the country I was born in opened my eyes to geography and created an interest in other cultures. I graduated from Brownwood High School determined to continue my study of history at a university. I attended Tarleton State University, graduating magna cum laude with a BA in History. I have taught social studies at Early HS, Panther Creek CISD, and at Mullin ISD since 2000.
In recent years, I have attempted to create a more interesting and challenging classroom. I recently attended a Faculty Development Institute on East Asia at the University of Texas at Austin, allowing me to develop more interesting and relevant instruction about China, Korea, and Japan. Each year, I have tried to make my classroom more technology based. I often use multi-media in my presentations. I also challenge my students by developing assignments that require the use of technology. One such example is a multi-media presentation ,created by my students, describing the school, community, history, and geography of Mullin. Our presentation was exchanged for a similar presentation from Yali Middle Boarding School, our partner school in Changsha, Hunan Province, China. It was a wonderful learning experience for everyone. I have several other projects in mind and will hopefully be able to implement them in the future. Be sure to check back for updates.
